80. He frowned

 

51st un-initialed sura, 23rd un-initialed revealed, 24th revealed overall

 

In the name of God, the All Gracious, the All Merciful

 

 

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ

                                               عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّى He frowned and turned away,-

 

5758 3015 399 347 1537 2

                                          أَنْ جَاءَهُ الأعْمَى

-because the blind man approached him.

 

5759 3016 400 348 1538 3

                                  وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُ يَزَّكَّى

And how do you know? He could have purified himself.

 

5760 3017 401 349 4

                                 أَوْ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنْفَعَهُ الذِّكْرَى

Or he could have taken heed and benefited from the reminder.

                                           أَمَّا مَنِ اسْتَغْنَى

However, as for the one who was rich,-

 

5762 3019 403 351 6

                                          فَأَنْتَ لَهُ تَصَدَّى

-you gave him all your attention.

 

5763 3020 404 352 1540 7

                                     وَمَا عَلَيْكَ أَلا يَزَّكَّى

While, you could have not done anything to purify him. 

 

5764 3021 405 353 8

                                   وَأَمَّا مَنْ جَاءَكَ يَسْعَى

But as for the one who came to you eagerly,-

 

5765 3022 406 354 9

                                               وَهُوَ يَخْشَى

-and was reverent,-

 

5766 3023 407 355 10

                                          فَأَنْتَ عَنْهُ تَلَهَّى

-you did not pay any attention.

 

5767 3024 408 356 1541 11

                                         كَلا إِنَّهَا تَذْكِرَةٌ

Absolutely, this is indeed a reminder.   

 

5768 3025 409 357 12

                                          فَمَنْ شَاءَ ذَكَرَهُ

Therefore let those who will, take heed.

                                      فِي صُحُفٍ مُكَرَّمَةٍ

In an honorable record.

 

5770 3027 411 359 14

                                          مَرْفُوعَةٍ مُطَهَّرَةٍ

Exalted and pure.

 

5771 3028 412 360 15

                                             بِأَيْدِي سَفَرَةٍ

Delivered by the hands of the messengers.

 

5772 3029 413 361 16

                                               كِرَامٍ بَرَرَةٍ

Honorable and righteous.

                                    قُتِلَ الإنْسَنُ مَا أَكْفَرَهُ

Woe to the human being, what made him disbelieve?

                                      مِنْ أَيِّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقَهُ

From what material has He created him?

                                   مِنْ نُطْفَةٍ خَلَقَهُ فَقَدَّرَهُ

He created him from semen, then, He exactly measured him.

                                         ثُمَّ السَّبِيلَ يَسَّرَهُ

He then made his task easy. 

 

5777 3034 418 366 21

                                           ثُمَّ أَمَاتَهُ فَأَقْبَرَهُ

Then He put him to death and buried him in the grave.  

 

5778 3035 419 367 22

                                        ثُمَّ إِذَا شَاءَ أَنْشَرَهُ

Then, when He wills, He will resurrect him.

 

5779 3036 420 368 1545 23

                                   كَلا لَمَّا يَقْضِ مَا أَمَرَهُ

Absolutely, he shall never break His commandments.

                               فَلْيَنْظُرِ الإنْسَانُ إِلَى طَعَامِهِ
